Screening following by a conversation with Allison Lira, Director of the National Program WFPSC in Honduras
Here in the US, we rarely have to come face to face with the kinds of human rights abuses that make our easy access to resources possible. La Voz Del Gualcarque, a documentary directed by Paola Reyes y Domingo Marin, sheds light on the assassination of Honduran land and water defender, Berta Caceres, whose bold and tireless work with Consejo Cívico de Organizaciones Populares e Indígenas de Honduras (COPINH) led to her assassination. At the screening of this short but important documentary, we will be in conversation with Allison Lira of Witness for Peace Solidarity Collective who lives and works in Honduras, collaborating closely with COPINH and other popular movements in the region. This event will lay out how human rights, environmental policy, international law and political advocacy intersect and, more importantly, what we can do about it.
